In Spain, the Platform for People Affected by Mortgages (PAH) estimates that since the beginning of the economic crisis in 2008, over 170,000 families have been evicted, at the same time when up to 14% of houses are empty. In Scotland, a shortage of affordable housing combined with increasingly deteriorated conditions of existing households is leading to talks of a housing crisis. How did this come to happen?
Podemos Edimburgo in collaboration with Living Rent Campaign invites you to the event: “Housing: right or privilege?” to be held on the 16th of May.
In this event we will analyse Spanish and Scottish housing policies and the effect these have had on housing availability and affordability in both countries, as well as possible solutions to the housing crisis.
There will also be a screening of the documentary “SI SE PUEDE: Seven days at PAH Barcelona” by Comando Video, showing a daily account on the activities of the Platform for People Affected by Mortgages in Barcelona.
The event will take place on the 16th of May at the Scots Guards Association Club (2 Clifton Terrace, EH12 5DR) from 5pm.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
Note: the screening will be in Spanish with English subtitles.
