En un momento de enormes dificultades económicas y sociales para la inmensa mayoría de las personas, PODEMOS nace para convertir la indignación en cambio político y para construir democracia a través de la participación ciudadana y la unidad popular. Sabemos que la democracia no consiste en votar cada cuatro años y asumimos el reto de organizarnos para hacer política, porque la política tiene que ver con todo lo que hacemos en nuestras vidas y si no hacemos política nosotros serán otros los que la harán por nosotros. Con este objetivo trabajamos en círculos locales, territoriales y sectoriales, en pueblos, en ciudades, en barrios , de manera abierta y sin prejuicios siempre en torno a tres ejes fundamentales:
- Democracia y soberanía popular
- Participación y decisión ciudadana
- Derechos sociales, cambio de modelo productivo, reparto del empleo y la riqueza.
En las calles se repite insistentemente: “Sí se puede”. Queremos ampliar ese grito, porque sabemos que si nos juntamos Podemos hacerlo.
What is PODEMOS?
PODEMOS is a tool for citizen empowerment which aims to transform popular outrage into political change capable of reclaiming the institutions and putting them at the service of citizens. It was registered as a party in March 2014 and ran what has been described as the most effective campaign of the European Elections, obtaining 5 MEPs and wide .
Nevertheless, PODEMOS is not just a party, it’s a citizen’s initiative that aims to build democracy through citizen participation and popular unity. At its heart are over a 1000 assemblies or ‘circles’, horizontally organised, locally held meetings (check here for details on how to attend the Edinburgh one), in which people from across the political spectrum gather to discuss and decide how to turn their frustration into effective political action. We propose simple but deep changes:
- To reclaim democracy
- To place politics at the service of people and Human Rights
- To be able to choose the economic model in which we work and live.
